Dissertation Title: Integration of geophysical methods to study the shallow subsurface

In my research, I am using different surface wave techniques to evaluate the shear-wave velocity (Vs) profile. The methods are both active, consisting of multi-channel analysis of surface waves (MASW), and passive, consisting of refraction microtremor (ReMi), extended spatial autocorrelation (ESAC), and horizontal-to-vertical spectral ratio (HVSR).

My first goal is to assesses the variability of shear-wave (Vs) profiles made at industrial sites using a suite of methods, The purpose is ascertaining the effect of higher levels of ambient noise on the results from the different methods.

My second goal is to systematically test the sensitivity of the Vs30 index (the averaged shear-wave profile to a depth of 30 meters), according to each measurement method, and to lateral geological changes in each site at scales of hundreds of meters.

More broadloy, this study will better constrain historical and archaeological intensities of macroseismic and archaeo-seismic data in areas where strong motion data is absent.
